Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Hello, Queen of the Hills

Step off the train at NJP or land at Bagdogra — your driver's already there, scanning the crowd for your name. The road climbs through tea-stained slopes for the next three hours; the air thins, the temperature drops, and somewhere around the 5,000 ft mark you forget you ever needed sunglasses. By dusk you're 6,700 ft up, sipping your first proper cup of Darjeeling. The evening is yours — wander Mall Road, watch the valley lights blink awake. Tomorrow's a 4 AM start, so go easy on the chai.

  • NJP / Bagdogra pickup
  • Scenic drive up to Darjeeling
  • Evening stroll on Mall Road

Sunrise on Kanchenjunga

Tiger Hill demands an unholy alarm — you'll thank us later. At 8,400 ft you stand among hundreds of strangers waiting for the same thing, and then it happens: the Sleeping Buddha blushes pink while the world is still grey. On the way back, the Batasia Loop unspools as the toy train spirals around a memorial to fallen Gorkha soldiers. Pause at smoky Ghoom Monastery — the oldest in the region — for chants and butter lamps. After breakfast, the rest of the day opens up: HMI for Tenzing Norgay's legacy, the zoo for snow leopards and red pandas, a working tea garden walk, and the white-domed Peace Pagoda for one quiet exhale before sunset. The evening is yours.

  • Tiger Hill sunrise (early start)
  • Batasia Loop & War Memorial
  • Ghoom Monastery
  • Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI)
  • Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
  • Tea garden walk
  • Peace Pagoda

Tea Estates & Three-Country Views

Today goes quietly off the beaten path. Start at Gopal Dhara Tea Estate — single-origin leaves, slope-side tasting, a first-flush you'll spend the rest of your life chasing. A short drive then takes you to the Indo-Nepal border at Pashupati Market, where you can wander between two countries before lunch. Wind through Lepcha Jagat, a sleepy hamlet tucked into pine forest, and finish at Simana Viewpoint, where Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan stretch out in a single panoramic breath. Back to Darjeeling — slower now, full of everything you saw.

  • Gopal Dhara Tea Garden tasting
  • Indo-Nepal Border (Pashupati Market)
  • Lepcha Jagat
  • Simana Viewpoint

One Last Cup

A long breakfast with the mountains still in the window. One last walk down Mall Road if there's time — buy the tea, the woollens, the small thangka you've been thinking about since Day 2. Then your driver winds you back down through the gardens to NJP, Siliguri or Bagdogra. Your bags will be heavier; so will the memory. This is Darjeeling — she lingers.
